About Us

Jackson's Meat and Deli was started in Maidenhead, England, in 1856 and was moved to 4th Avenue, Vancouver, in 1911. Today, it is owned and operated by Chris and Shayna Jackson who have restored it to support the future of the family business.

Chris Jackson originally worked for his father Geoff Jackson in the Jackson's Meat stores since he was 12 years old. His father trained him in all of the traditional techniques known to the Jackson family. After working in the store for many years with his sister Sara and his father, Chris left the business for a few years to explore other avenues. Chris' passion for the retail food industry took him to a management position at a busy Pub in Langley for almost 5 years. After gaining much valuable experience in management, Chris was compelled to return to the meat business and helped open Moreno's Market in Langley as their resident Meat Expert and a member of their Management Team. After a rewarding experience helping open Moreno's, Chris longed to make the Jackson's family business his own. Geoff Jackson decided to retire and close up shop on South Granville in October of 2008 and Chris immediately kept his eyes open for a new location to carry on the family name.

Shayna Jackson (formerly Cooper) met Chris in 2001 and was also working in the retail food industry as a server in a Pub in Richmond. After Managing a restaurant in English Bay for a couple of years and then working in the kitchen of a fine dining Italian restaurant for another year, Shayna finally conceded to her love of cooking and began catering.

Shayna's Grandfather Ron Cooper Sr. opened Signal Hill Grocery in New Foundland in 1932. He moved to Vancouver where he bought Magee Grocery on 49th Avenue in 1945. Eventually, Cooper's Foods was born in 1967 and was later bought by Shayna's father Wayne Cooper and his two brothers. Wayne and his brother Ron sold the Cooper's Foods chain to The Jim Pattison Group in 1999.

Chris and Shayna grew up in the retail food industry and it is no surprise that it remains their passion. Today, they have combined their knowledge and their family history and Jackson's Meat & Deli has been re-born.
